To provide Scouts and Guides with subcamps where they can safely take part in challenging, stimulating and thought-provoking activities. We will work together as subcamp teams to provide the young people and their leaders with a memorable week of Scouting and Guiding. We will do our best to ensure our subcamps are FUN and SAFE places to be.
The subcamp environment is the main area of any Jamboree and will become your home for the week.
The main subcamp team at NORJAM is a selection of experienced leaders from Scouting and Guiding in Norfolk and consists of a director, two deputies and six subcamp leaders who will be introduced later.
Following the theme ‘Back in Time’, the Sub-camps for NORJAM 2014 are:
I am sure you will all enjoy your subcamp experience whichever one you are on.
The Directorship Team...
I have been involved in Scouting the best part of 28 years and held various appointments in the County of Norfolk. I am at present a member of a Scout Active Support unit.
I have been involved in the previous seven International Jamborees held at the Norfolk Showground, as a contingent leader, deputy and subcamp leader, deputy and now director of subcamps.
At this NORJAM, I will look forward to meeting up with Scouting friends made over the years, making new friends and most of all seeing the smiles of young people enjoying themselves taking part in activities and the whole Jamboree experience of NORJAM. I hope you enjoy meeting my team and have a great time at NORJAM 2014.
My name is Helen West, one of John's deputies, with responsibility for the Stoneage, Vikings and Victorian subcamps at NORJAM 2014 as well as helping to organise Cub and Brownie Day. I am an experienced Guide leader who has held a wide variety of Guiding roles. I currently run two Guide units in North Norfolk and am the Anglia Region Guide Adviser.
NORJAM 2014 will be my 5th NORJAM , having attended in 1999 and 2003 as a contingent leader and then being a subcamp leader in 2006 and 2010. I really enjoy the atmosphere and excitement of large-scale camps and Jamborees and so try to attend one every summer, meeting Guiding and Scouting friends old and new.
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible and to sharing the fun and excitement of all that the Jamboree has to offer with you and your Guides and Scouts.
See you on 9th August!
My first experience of NORJAM was in 1995 when, as a cub leader in Norfolk, I was a member of a subcamp team. In 2014, I will attend my 6th NORJAM and I must say that the buzz and excitement I felt in ’95 has been the same every NORJAM since. I really couldn’t imagine not being part of the whole Jamboree experience.
I know that for me NORJAM will always mean excitement and fun but most of all it is about seeing the happy faces of young people (and Leaders) as they take part in the activities on offer, try new things, make new friends from near and far, and at the end of their stay go home with treasured, happy memories.
I have had various roles in Scouting and at NORJAM over the years but this time as a deputy director of subcamps (supporting Middle Ages, Romans and Tudors) and as an organiser for Cub and Brownie Day I shall be looking at NORJAM from more of a strategic and management role – that doesn’t mean that I shall enjoy it any less!
I hope that you will come to say hello during your stay at NORJAM 2014.
