NORJAM offering an opportunity to learn new skills
over 18s only
As part of the project to build pioneering style gateways at the 2014 event we are looking for anyone in the County who has attended a specific Forestry Commission course on the use of chainsaws and has the certificate/permit to verify it.
Any other course and certificate/permit held by persons are not recognised by the Forestry Commission for use of chainsaws in FC managed areas.
At this moment in time our 70+ pioneering poles are still growing and we need to cut them this year to dry out, and we shall need considerable help.
We hope to start harvesting in May /June 2012
Later we shall be seeking volunteers to construct these items and, with the help of the County Advisor, Tony Buttifant, will run training sessions to pass on this knowledge. We shall need a large team and preparing the poles will be part of the program. In the absence of skilled authorized chainsaw operators this will all have to be done by hand, offering the opportunity to learn all about felling axes, hand axes and draw saws.
If you do not hold the appropriate certificate to satisfy the requirements of the FC, we would still welcome your knowledge of forestry to help teach good practice to our team.
If you hold a certificate / permit, please copy it and email Alan Bedder (01603 424589 | 07925 350707)
If you wish to learn pioneering, please contact Alan Bedder or Graham Don
